It’s Beaujolais Day – Le Beaujolais Nouveau est Arrivé

Beaujolais Day (or Beaujolais Nouveau Day) is a world famous festival which takes place every year to celebrate the release of that year’s Beaujolais Nouveau wine (a vin de primeur or young wine). By law, the new wine can only be released to the public at 00.01am on the third Thursday of November.

Le Beaujolais Nouveau est Arrivé‘ is the well-known slogan used to announce the arrival of the new wine and is widely used on posters and marketing material to advertise, amongst other things, Beaujolais wine, Beaujolais Day events and Beaujolais tastings.

Beaujolais Day is celebrated principally in France (and more specifically the Beaujolais wine-producing villages) however the celebration became a global phenomenon in the 1970s and 1980s with parties and events being held over the world.

Today, whilst the epicentre of Beaujolais celebrations is Beaujeu and the other villages of the region, there are pockets of enthusiasts around the world who also welcome November’s third Thursday with events and parties.  Japan and South Korea are particularly large export markets for the wine whilst the UK, USA and Canada also have a good choice of events for oenophiles to attend.  Outside France however, no other place seems to have embraced Beaujolais Day quite as much as Swansea, Wales.
